Tequila Shots

Today we joined the kids from the USA on their spring break to taste some local Tequila. Tequila we learned was first made in the 16th century and is made from the fermentation of the sugars found in the blue agave. It is aged, but only briefly, in American Oak Barrels, which give it a slight shade, not unlike whiskey.

The Mexican host, having told Martin off as "It wasn't a drinking competition" after he suggested to latecomers they had to drink double the amount, copiously supplied large shots to his audience.

Neither of us was particularly struck, Martin preferring the sweeter kind, which we were informed was not good Tequila.

We also had the opportunity to taste two Mexican wines with the hotel Sommelier, One a fruity Chenin Blanc and another tasty Shiraz. Both were $70 at the hotel - so we are sticking to the house wine!

We have also been testing the cocktails, concluding so far that Caipirinha, the cocktail of Brazil, is our favourite. Thanks to Jacqui's work colleague Emma for the recommendation. https://www.liquor.com/recipes/caipirinha/

We are not on a boozy holiday, honestly....
