Today, Saturday, we move on to Mexico City. So we would like to share a few other experiences of these first five days.

The hotel was excellent (link); it had 7 separate places to eat with no limit on which and most cooked to order. Delicious sushi, tasty steaks, delicate pastries and fabulous Mexican food left us wanting little.

Service-wise, Martin particularly enjoyed ordering morning coffee and croissants, an included 24-hour service (Martin tried to be clever ordering raspberries and got a bowl of blueberries!). The hotel had excellent service and a wide variety of quality entertainment.

One notable moment was a whole tuna, attended to by six chefs adorned by tall wide chef hat. They promptly turned its flesh into fresh sushi in front of everyone. Another was the fusion of modern pop delivered through the talents of a young local female violinist.

We enjoyed may impromptu conversations, mostly with Americans who must have represented 85% of the guests. They include Alex, Sarah and Terra. Part of a Hen party from Toronto who all turned up in matching beachwear. Our journey, they said, gave them hope that there would be life after marriage and kids! There was also an American couple sunbathing near us whose eyes popped out went we mentioned our UK levels of paid annual leave - we rarely take two weeks off together, they said, and you're lucky if you get four weeks a year.

On the travel front, Martin was left wondering why he just brought just two tee-shirts and Jacqui why she had packed an impractical white denim skirt, dirty on first wear and impossible to get dry after washing! However, on a positive note, our portable clothesline is a real hit.

This was five days of rest before we really got going. We ventured out briefly, taking a shaky $1 bus up and down the strip. But the 'party' area was unashamedly a sheltered and narrow view of Mexico filled with hotels and bars.

We would return.
